Men's Classic Bodybuilding Division to Remain at 2012 CBBF World Qualifier

The CBBF has confirmed that in addition to the NEW Men's and Women's Physique classes, the Men's Classic Bodybuilding division will remain at the 2012 CBBF World Qualifier, which will be held in Winnipeg on April 28th, 2012. This is due to the fact that Men's Classic Bodybuilding is still a contested division at the IFBB World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships, and as such will continue to be a qualifying division at the National amateur level at the CBBF World Qualifier ONLY. The Men's Classic Bodybuilding division will NOT be continued at the Novice or Provincial Championships in Manitoba.

If you finished in the TOP 5 in your respective height class in Men's Classic Bodybuilding at either the Novice or Provincial Championships in 2010 or 2011, or competed at the CBBF National Championships OR World Qualifier in those years, you may be eligible to compete in Men's Classic Bodybuilding at the 2012 CBBF World Qualifier WITH APPROVAL OF THE MABBA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. If you wish to compete in the NEW Men's Physique division at the 2012 CBBF World Qualifier, you MUST qualify In Physique at the 2012 MABBA Novice Championships, to be held in Winnipeg on March 17th, 2012. If you compete in Men's Physique at the 2012 MABBA Novice Championships, you may NOT compete in any other discipline at the World Qualifier.

If you compete in, and place in the top 5 of any weight class in Men's Bodybuilding at the 2012 MABBA Novice Championships, you will be eligible to compete in Men's Classic Bodybuilding at the 2012 CBBF World Qualifier, as long as you meet the criteria for that division. See Men's Classic Bodybuilding under Criteria.

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact the MABBA Bodybuilding Chairperson, Mike Janik at mike.janik@hotmail.com.

Womens Physique
Definition: Women's physique division (herein referred to as "WP") has been created to give a platform for women who enjoy weight training, competing, contest preparation. Competitors should display a toned, athletic physique showcasing femininity, muscle tone, beauty/flow of physique.

Judging Criteria
WP will be judged on the following criteria:
- Symmetry, shape, proportion, muscle tone, poise and beauty flow
- physique assessment and comparison will take place during prejudging

Physique should display all of the above criteria without compromising femininity, beauty/flow of physique, etc.

The following are examples of common terms used in the bodybuilding industry. These words can be helpful to assess what should not be descriptive to the physiques being judged in WP:

I.E: Ripped, shredded, peeled, striated, dry, diced, hard, vascular, grainy, massive, thick, dense, etc.

While all types of physiques will be considered when it comes to height, weight, structure, etc. Excessive muscularity should be scored down accordingly.

WP should be judged as a standard between women's figure and womens bodybuilding.

Judging Format

Quarter turns, if warranted!
Mandatory posing comparisons/ callouts

Finals
Individual posing routine

Rules

- suits worn by wp competitors for prejudging must be a two piece. Suits do not have to be solid in color. The bottom of the suit must be v-shaped. No thongs are permitted. Competitors can compete in an off the rack suit. All suits must be in good taste.

Men's Physique
Judging Criteria

Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts allowed for example the moon pose. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience.

Competition Judging

  • Presentation
Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform quarter (1/4) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.

On Saturday, March 19th, 2011, the Manitoba Amateur Bodybuilding Association (MABBA) Novice Bodybuilding, Women’s Fitness, Figure, and Bikini Championship is going to make local history.

According to MABBA President, Tom Heffner, this weekend 166 competitors are going to step on the Pantages Theatre stage in Winnipeg. icon ATTENTION MABBA Competitors

To all MABBA Competitors, starting January 1st, 2009 the following directive from the CBBF will be followed, this does not involve previous years.

The Manitoba Bodybuilding Association (MABBA) is under the direction of the Canadian Bodybuilding Federation (CBBF) and will for that reason be following the directive agreed upon by the Presidents’ of the IFBB at the 2008 World Congress held in November.

During the World Congress, the President of the IFBB, Dr. Rafael Santonja spoke of the IFBB Federation taking action against competitive organizations. It was further discussed at meetings in Madrid, Spain.

The CBBF will now be requesting Provincial Associations to control there athlete’s involvement in competitive organizations, once they become Provincial Association Members.

The CBBF has been directed, from communication with the IFBB, not to allow professional athletes from non recognized organizations to participate in IFBB amateur events.

If a CBBF member is found to be recognized as a professional athlete, or competing for cash prizes in a competitive organizations a letter will be provided, stating this.

In addition the letter shall state if the athlete wishes to compete in the CBBF they must forgo their professional status in the competing organization.

If they fail to sign the letter, or are found to still be competing in other organization, they will have their amateur status removed and will no longer be eligible for competitions in the IFBB.

Open letter from the president of the CBBF - Mark Smishek

Hello CBBF Fans:

It's been a while since my last installment. I have spent the past months communicating with the President of the IFBB, Dr. Rafael Santonja as well as the President of the NPC and the IFBB Pro League, Mr. Jim Manion, with many new decisions being discussed. A few of which you will see in the following text.

I have been working closely with both the Amateur and Professional sides of our governing body the IFBB and though we are still waiting for the minutes of the World Congress, held in Manama City, Bahrain from 2008 we will provide a few of the changes.

1) First and foremost the IFBB and the CBBF are AMATEUR organizations, which means our athletes should not be competing for or attaining cash or cash prizes, as some of the competitive organizations are providing.
Once an athlete is provided an IFBB Pro League Card they then can compete for financial prizes, endorsements, etc.

After discussion with many of your Provincial Presidents it became apparent that there were issues with the new policy to protect our athletes from competing for financial gain.

Following many conversations with the IFBB Amateur and Professional leaders the policy now in place provided athletes a one-time chance of gaining re-entry in the CBBF. I have heard that many trainers and their athletes may have issues with this decision, I will not defend the actions taken, other than to say that the CBBF is an AMATEUR FEDERATION under the banner of the IFBB.

If athletes wish to compete elsewhere we wish them well, however if they wish to compete on the International stage at far-off location against the best in the world, or compete against the top professional athletes, then the CBBF is where you may wish to compete.

2) For 2009 and the future our past World Qualifying event shall now be known as the Natural Physique Championships. We shall maintain the fine work provided by the CCES and IOC Laboratory, which are under the governance of WADA. In 2008 WADA formally accepted the IFBB as a recognized member organization. The CBBF has been recognized by the IFBB and many of the countries, under the IFBB banner as a leader in the sport against performance enhancing drugs.

3) Later in 2009 we shall announce changes which the IFBB, WADA and the CBBF shall Endeavour.

Selkirk bodybuilder wins novice bantam title - The Selkirk Journal

Selkirk’s Neil Marks may be a newcomer to the provincial bodybuilding scene but he is quickly making a name for himself.

Taking part in his first ever bodybuilding competition, the 34- year-old Mandak welder was biceps and shoulders above the competition at the Manitoba Amateur Body Building Association novice championships March 29 at Pantages Playhouse in Winnipeg finishing first in the bantam category (136-145 pounds).

Not only did he take spot, Marks – to his surprise – was a unanimous victor scoring first place ballots from all five judges.
